Research

My research career had been dedicated to study the behaviour, and particularly the chemical ecology of triatomine bugs, insects that transmit Chagas disease to humans. The main topics studied in the recent years have been related to their sexual communication by means of volatile pheromones.

I am currently initiating a research project funded by CNPq, Brazil, under the supervision of Dr. Rikard Ignell, to study aspects of peripheral processing of odour signals in mosquitos, searching for new odorant molecules related to the detection of hosts. Identified compounds may be of interest in the development of push-pull control strategies and new repellents.
